i had a minor surgery last week and i'm happy to be on the mend. instead of pool parties and bbqs this weekend i've read a lot, cleaned up and organized my closet a bit, done a few crafty projects, sketched, browsed ebay for days it seems and general at home sick kind of stuff. i never have down time like this and i have to say that considering the circumstances, it has been a good recharge after a busy spring...

speaking of black gardens

i just ordered this gorgeous double onyx helleborus for my future garden. for now, i'll hoard all of my black plants in containers around my apartment and be satisfied creating beautiful landscapes for others (did i tell you, i run a landscape and floral design studio with my sister?).

anyways, in perfect me fashion, i rushed off to the west side at rush hour after work yesterday to catch the tail end of the row's annual sample sale. i was ready to fight for a pair of their motorcycle pants. too bad i was exactly 24 hours late. i had marked it wrong on my calender... boo. so to make up for my loss, i hit up refinery 29's east/west sale at space 15 twenty. it was jampacked, but i came out with 2 pieces. i'll take photos to share.

garance recently posted about her top 10 wardrobe essentials and it's been a truly inspiring read including following up through the comments. as i'm working on editing my closet, i'm thinking about my own top 10 staple pieces i should collect the most perfect "me" version of and use forever.

i am drawn to architectural and interesting cuts, pieces with edge, dark and ethnic touches. however, it has to be comfortable. i love sustainable and luxurious fabrics (the softer the better) and layers. ok, here goes:

1.black dress that i can wear a million ways
2.black leather jacket
3.white and gray tshirts
4.black tailored pants
5. black jeans (more destroyed and worn the better)
6.perfectly tailored blazer
7.sweaters for layering
8.sequins
9.black skirt
10.leggings, leather is nice

new items, new classes, new blog

i've been extremely inspired by my fashion design classes at otis and i can't wait to be able to translate the garment ideas in my head to real life. i'm in my second week of an apparel construction and a knitwear class. my background is in landscape architecture, so i design for a living but i have been craving other forms of creative expression. i see fashion as another medium for me, one in which i can see a clear beginning and end... i'll be documenting my process here.
